In 1999 to 2000 a baseline inventory of 455 hectares of remnant native grassland and vertebrate and invertebrate fauna in the Mid North was created. The area was proclaimed as Mokota Conservation Park in October 2000. It is the first native Lomandra multiflora ssp. dura Tussock Grassland in a park in SA. Survey was conducted using the Biological Survey of South Australia method.
