Quantitative analysis of sugar-induced gene expression in Drosophila larvae

In order to clarify the role of the polyol pathway on gene expression, metabolites produced by the polyol pathway were administered to starved wild-type and sorbitol dehydrogenase (sodh1, sodh2) mutant larvae, and gene expression in these larvae was examined using next-generation sequencing. Overall design: Third-instar larvae were starved for 18 hours then refed with different sugars for 6 hours. PolyA-selected RNA from whole larvae was used to generate libralies for sequencing.
