Gut microbiota modulation with corn bran arabinoxylan in overweight individuals is linked to individualized temporal responses in fecal propionate

Although inter-individual variation in the response of the gut microbiota to dietary fiber might constitute a factor influencing its health effects, this topic has received little attention. The objective of this study was therefore to characterize the responses of the gut microbiota to a relevant dose of a corn bran isolated long-chain AX (female: 25 g/d; male: 35 g/d) using an ecological framework, and to assess whether nutritional and microbiome-related factors explain the variation in the response among individuals.
