Geomorphological Database of the Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark (European Alps)

Abstract This dataset presents the digital Geomorphological Database (GDB) for the Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) in the European Alps, a GIS-based framework documenting geomorphological processes and landforms across the entire protected area (approx. 1,100 km²). A consolidated and standardized GDB structure, based on the guidelines for the Official Geomorphological Map of Italy at a 1:50,000 scale, was adopted. The GDB includes over 20,000 landforms, providing a quantitative knowledge base on the geomorphological diversity of the protected area. The project was initiated and funded by the Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta (PNAB) and conducted by a research team from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Pavia. It was supported by the Autonomous Province of Trento (Geological Survey and Department for Protected Areas and Sustainable Development) and the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. The GDB is fully described in an open-access paper published in Geoheritage (Seppi et al., 2026; https://doi.org/10.1007/s12371-026-01295-6). Data description The data are provided as GeoPackage (*.gpkg) files, along with their corresponding symbology styles provided as *.qml files. Each *.gpkg file is briefly described below: ST050.gpkg Bedrock lithology grouped into classes according to geomorphological criteria, based on their resistance to weathering and erosional processes. ST052polygon.gpkg and ST052polyline.gpkg Natural landforms represented as polygons or polylines. Based on the genetic process, each landform is identified by an alphanumeric acronym. For example, GL23 identifies a terminal moraine ridge and GL15 identifies an abraded rock surface with glacial striations. Each landform feature includes multiple descriptive attributes. ST053polygon.gpkg and ST053polyline.gpkg Anthropogenic landforms represented as polygons or polylines. ST054polygon.gpkg and ST054polyline.gpkg Features other than landforms, such as lakes, glaciers, and glacierets. Study_Area.gpkg A polygon representing the boundary of the entire area included in the GDB. All geospatial data are provided in the EPSG 32632 coordinate reference system (WGS 84/UTM zone 32N).
