Performance assessment of an upflow hybrid anaerobic reactor using combined suspended and fixed biomass for anaerobic treatment of the liquid fraction of food waste

This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of anaerobic digestion of the LFFW collected at a waste transfer station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a focus on biogas production through the development of an innovative anaerobic reactor Configuration. Furthermore, the study sought to assess both the efficiency of the process in terms of reactor performance and the structure of the microbial community, placing particular emphasis on methanogenic archaea, to enhance understanding of the biological conversion processes occurring within the bioreactor.
