The Pleiades-1A satellite sensor, successfully launched by AIRBUS Defence & Space on December 16, 2011, provides high-resolution satellite imagery data with a 0.5-meter spatial resolution. The Pleiades-1A satellite can deliver orthorectified color imagery at 0.5-meter resolution, which is roughly comparable to GeoEye-1, and can cover a total of 1 million square kilometers (approximately 386,102 square miles) of the Earth's surface per day. Most notably, the Pleiades-1A satellite can acquire high-resolution stereoscopic imagery during a single overpass, and is capable of covering large-area regions with a maximum extent of 1,000 km × 1,000 km.
