The tested bacterial strains CG43S3, CG43S3ΔyjcC,CG43S3ΔyjcC[pJR1] and CG43S3ΔyjcC[pJR2] were cultured in LB medium at 37°C for overnight.Five mice of a group were injected intraperitoneally with bacteria resuspended in 0.2 ml of saline in 10-fold steps graded doses. The LD50, based on the number of survivors after one week, were calculated by the method of Reed and Muench (53) and expressed as CFU.
