VPRS 11195 Committee Records

This series comprises a variety of records collected or created by the Committee of Public Accounts (also known as the Public Accounts Committee between 1968-1979) and the Public Accounts and Expenditure Review Committee in the course of their activities.The majority of records within this series were created in the course of inquiries or investigations undertaken by these Committees. Although the range of documents created per inquiry/investigation will vary, the following broad categories of documents were generally created during all or most of them:Background papers comprising copies of printed material, reports etc gathered by the Committee in the course of initial research about the body to be reviewed.Correspondence files relating to either the actual investigation or organisational aspects of the inquiry.Submissions tendered by individuals or organisations during the investigation stating their views on the issues concerned. Some submissions were also received in response to public hearings or issue of the final report.Transcripts of public hearings which must be held as part of each inquiry. Copies of the transcripts, which were forwarded to the various participants for amendments or corrections are also included.Reports including the final printed copy as presented to Parliament containing the Committee's findings and recommendations and reports made by consultants for the Committee.The following records which were not created as part of specific inquiries/investigations were placed at the start or the end of the P1 consignment. These include:Minutes of meetings (units 1-4)Press cuttings (1912-1919 and 1963-1981 - unit 4)General correspondence files (1959-1982 - units 4-5)Miscellaneous reports and documents pertaining to visits and inspections I (units 4-6)Copies of Committee reports (1895-1978 - unit 65).P2 consignmentIn 2003, the original Acts, Bills and other related series created by the Legislative Assembly were transferred to PROV. During the process of this transfer, other records (including the P2 consignment of this series) were appraised and those deemed permanent were transferred to PROV.
