In Project 1, the performance of lab scale hybrid bioreactor systems such as microaerophilic fixed-film bioreactors (MFB) integrated with aerobic membrane bioreactor (Ae-MBR) was evaluated for the treatment of persistent mobile chemicals (PMCs) in common effluent treatment plant (CETP) wastewater. The hybrid bioreactors were operated at various hydraulic retention times (HRTs) and the associated microbial community dynamics was monitored using high-throughput 16S rRNA gene (V3-V4) amplicon sequencing of extracted metagenome samples.In Project 2, a bio-electrochemical system with an electroconductive polymer modified anode was engineered and its performance for the treatment of textile dye wastewater was evaluated .The microbial community dynamics of anode chamber and the electroactive biofilms formed on the anode electrodes was studied using 16S rRNA gene (V3-V4) amplicon sequencing of extracted metagenome samples.
