We used microarrays to investigate whether transcriptional dysregulation in hypothalamus is caused by expression of the huntingtin (HTT) protein We used two different Huntington's disease mouse models: BACHD mice with ubiquitous full-length mutant HTT expression (97 CAG repeats) and wild-type mice with targeted bilateral injections of wild-type or mutant HTT (853 amino acids length, wild-type HTT: 18 CAG repeats, mutant HTT: 79 CAG repeats) in hypothalamus. BACHD mice were analyzed at 2 months of age (early disease progression) and at 10 months of age (late disease progression). Wild-type mice with targeted overexpression of 18 CAG or 79 CAG HTT in hypothalamus were analyzed at 4 weeks post-injection (12 weeks of age). All mice in the study were females, and age-matched littermate wild-type mice were used as control groups for each mouse model and timepoint.
