Preterm birth has been termed as the principal unsolved problem in perinatal medicine; vaginal microbiome plays an important role in it, but the exact causative microbes remains elusive in pregnant Chinese women. By using high-throughput sequencing technology, this study was undertaken to unveil the vaginal microbiota of pregnant Chinese women who pregnant after IVF or natural that delivered preterm or at term. The changes of vaginal bacteria community during the whole gestation were monitored. The results showed that numbers of observed species and bacteria community diversities in participants who delivered at term were much higher than those who delivered preterm throughout prenatal. Vaginal bacteria community diversities were decreased as the gestational week increased in all samples. For natural pregnant women, Oceanobacillus can act as a positive biomarker, Sulfurospirillum and Propionispira can act as negative biomarkers for the detection of the risk of preterm. We found that Lactobacillus was dominant in all samples, no Bacillus was found in late gestation of all samples, and Alloscardovia was only found in participants who pregnancy after IVF.
