The islands of Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius were struck by Hurricane IRMA on 7 September 2017. All three islands were impacted, but Sint Maarten sustained the most damage. The French part of the island was “95% destroyed” and a number of fatalities have been reported. In response the Netherlands has sent marines to St Maarten, and two aid flights.<br>
