Estrogen is a known risk factor for breast cancer development. In previous experimental studies, it is known as to induce DNA double-strand breaks in its transcriptional target regions. We studied if estrogen treatment could induce DNA breaks that were repaired by chromosomal translocations in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer cell lines.
