Serratia fonticola is a ubiquitous inhabitant of aquatic environments and has been also regarded as a significant human pathogen. However, to our knowledge, there is no record of a S. fonticola genome sequence in public databases. Serratia fonticola LMG 7882 (ATCC 29814) is the type strain of this species and was isolated from freshwater. Here we present the draft genome of this strain which will enable further studies to understand the ecology, virulence potential and antibiotic resistance of this species.
