Tibetan Plateau has been experiencing rapid climate changes in past decades, how soil prokaryotes response to these changes determines the stability of alpine ecosystems and has been a research hotspot recently. Some experimental studies suggested that the responses of soil prokaryotes to global warming on the local-site scale depend on water availability. However, how water and temperature interacted to drive soil prokaryote changes remains unclear on the watershed scale, which is the most common geographic units on the Tibetan Plateau. Here, we investigated how the community structure and assembly of soil prokaryotes vary along the temperature gradient (represented by elevation changes) under different water availability scenarios in the Niyaqu watershed.
