Ethiopia (2014): Assessing Challenges and Opportunities of Private Sector Health Care Providers in the Implementation of STI Management through Syndromic Approach in Ethiopia.

TransACTION is a five years program, 2009-2014, funded by USAID/PEPFAR. With Save the Children USA being the prime partner, TransACTION is a consortium of local and international organizations. Population Service International (PSI/E) together with Marie Stops International (MSIE) is one of the International Partners which is responsible for clinical services delivery component. The program endeavors to reduce and prevent new HIV and STIs among at risk populations while strengthening linkages to care and support services in 120 towns along the major transport corridors of Ethiopia targeting female sex workers and persons engaged in transactional sex. The general objective of the study is to learn about the challenges and opportunities of implementing STI management through Syndromic Case Management (SCM) approach in the private sector and assess acceptability of STI treatment kits by health care providers. The study employed qualitative method including key informant interview, facility observation and SWOT analysis among a small group.
