We continue the cleaning away of the bark of the sago tree, a process called TAAPA HAGBIN. Longdi Modi tells us about the various uses of sago tree, like "panol" used in wounds of domestic animals, which helps to stop them bleeding. It is also highly flammable, and is used as tinder to help ignite a fire with flint when there is no match in the village. We also use the hard bark of the sago tree as a rain-coating and besoms (???) out of its leaves. Sago trees are nowadays used to feed pigs, while in earlier days humans also consumed it as Longdi Modi told us.. Language as given:
