Cottonseed press cake as a potential diet for industrially farmed black soldier fly larvae triggers adaptations of their bacterial and fungal gut microbiota

Here, we investigate the bacterial and fungal community composition in the guts of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL, Hermetia illucens; Linnaeus, 1758) reared on cottonseed press cake for several generations compared to standard diet (chicken feed) by Illumina high throughput sequencing of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene and fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS). Primers U341F and U806R were used to amplify variable region V3 to V4 of the 16S rRNA gene. Primers fITS7 and ITS4 were used to amplify fungal ITS2 region.
