Reconstructed Sub-Daily Rainfall Annual Maxima for Southern Italy

The databases of sub-daily (1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours) rainfall annual maxima were constructed using all available records and extended using spatial interpolation methods, such as the spatially-constrained ordinary kriging proposed by Avino et al. (2021). The data reconstruction was needed to fill the existing gaps in the time series due to malfunctioning and repeated changes experienced by the monitoring network (activation and removal of rain gauges, changes in position and type of sensor). The final database composed by measured and reconstructed data consists of about 25000 annual maxima (which include about 17000 observations) from 910 rain gauges belonging to southern Italy covering the period from 1970 to 2020.
