资源简介:

The aim of the project is to demonstrate for the first time that a novel and unique nano iron compound, which is an engineered analogue of natural food iron, SAFELY corrects iron deficiency and anemia in children in resource-poor areas. Our award-winning compound (Iron Hydroxide Adipate Tartrate: IHAT) is highly bioavailable to humans through physiologically appropriate pathways and is not available to gut enteropathogens. Importantly, IHAT has a low cost of manufacture due to its facile synthesis and inexpensive raw materials. It therefore has the potential to transform treatment of iron deficiency. Iron deficiency (ID) and its associated anemia (IDA) is the largest nutritional deficiency disorder in the world and affects a total of 1.2 billion people, the majority of whom are children and women from resource-poor countries. ID is frequently exacerbated by concomitant parasitic and bacterial enteropathogenic infections and contributes to almost 0.8 million deaths a year as well as irreparably limiting the cognitive development of children (1). In this study we will analyse the gut microbiome in young children over three different time points following IHAT administration. The effect of IHAT therpay and the changes of the gut microiobme will be investigated. This data is part of a pre-publication release. For information on the proper use of pre-publication data shared by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (including details of any publication moratoria), please see http://www.sanger.ac.uk/datasharing/
