Pasteurella multocida and severe tracheitis in finishing pigs

A commercial pig unit experienced an acute outbreak of harsh coughing and respiratory distress in finishing pigs resulting in death of some of the animals. Post mortem examination of freshly-dead pigs showed severe tracheitis, pulmonary congestion and oedema. Samples of trachea and lung were taken for analysis and bacterial cultures yielded heavy growth of Pasteurella multocida in both samples. Isolates were submitted for hybrid (long- and short-read) genome sequencing and both assembled into complete single circular contigs.
