The Waugoola Shire Council was in correspondence with individuals, organisations and government departments. Subjects covered by the correspondence include: rating inquiries, use and hire of Council facilities, applications to construct signs, amendment of by laws, inquiries regarding licensing fees, comments or complaints regarding the maintenance and repair program operated by the Council, comments or complaints on general Council services, requests for donations, requests for relief for the employed, assessment of the value of properties and application for building works.Incoming and outgoing correspondence was listed into registers so that the correspondence could be located if required. This series contains the handwritten Inwards Correspondence Registers of the Council and one Outwards Correspondence register.The first two volumes are arranged alphabetically by the author of the letter. The following information is contained in the registers: date received, from whom received, subject, and file number. Subsequent registers are arranged chronologically according to the date of receipt. The following information is contained in the registers: number, date received, from whom received, and the subject. In addition, some of the registers contain: date of the letter, number of the file, the recipient of the letter (clerk) dates that the letter was used by staff members (movement dates) and the date eventually filed. The Outwards Correspondence register contains the following information: number, date sent, to whom sent and movement dates.
