The canvas model is a unified framework from which general relativity, quantum mechanics, gauge theory, and the Standard Model all emerge as consequences of wave dynamics on a pre-geometric canvas. This paper proves that string theory does too. The connection was discovered through a simple count. The canvas has fundamental fields. Some are structural—they generate spacetime. Others are inhabitants—they live on it. The structural fields number exactly ten: four geometric, three gauge symmetry, and three geometric property. String theory requires ten dimensions. This is not a coincidence. What string theory calls dimensions, the canvas model calls fields. Sixteen theorems are proved. Closed waves are strings. The canvas wave equation is the string equation of motion. The Nambu-Goto action follows step-by-step from the canvas action. Quantization gives the oscillator and Virasoro algebras. The critical dimension of ten matches the structural field count. The gauge group SU(3)×SU(2)×U(1) follows uniquely from the 3D internal space. The tachyon is eliminated by the threshold condition. The spectrum includes the graviton, all Standard Model gauge bosons, and Planck-scale excitations. String interactions come from wave intersections, with vertex operators as overlap integrals. The six extra dimensions of string theory are not curled-up geometric spaces. They are property fields—the gauge symmetries and geometric properties that manifest as the internal structure of the Standard Model. They do not intersect the time field above threshold, so they do not create spatial voxels. They are not compactified. They are simply not spatial. String theory is not the fundamental theory of nature. It is an effective description of closed wave dynamics on the canvas. The canvas model is the deeper theory from which string theory—along with general relativity, quantum mechanics, and gauge theory—emerges.
