Condensation of [Ru₃S₂(cymene)₃]²⁺ with Sulfide To Give the Dendridic Cluster [Ru₉S₈(cymene)₆]²⁺

Reaction of [(cymene)2Ru3S2(NCMe)3]2+ with sulfide sources efficiently affords the cluster of clusters [(cymene)6Ru9S8](PF6)2. The synthesis is subject to coformation of [(cymene)4Ru5S4](PF6)2, which arises via the reaction of [(cymene)2Ru3S2(NCMe)3](PF6)2 and [(cymene)6Ru9S8](PF6)2. Crystallographic analysis demonstrates that [(cymene)6Ru9S8](PF6)2 features three [(cymene)2Ru3S2]2+ units linked through a pair of μ3-S ligands.
