Pricing the Sterile Capital by the kilo,the strange road for old J

This note revisits the latifundia echo hypothesis in light of the pilot data collected on Malawi, Cameroon, Uganda and Chad. It does not confirm or refute the hypothesis. It identifies a new reading of the unit-value data — the pricing of sterile capital by weight — and a new mechanism — the scrap price as a pressure regulator. It also identifies a possible exit from the latifundia, the Ugandan case, which remains to be tested. It states the methodological difficulties and the limits of the data.
