PELD do Oeste do Pará (POPA)/LTER of western Pará (Popa): Game mammals and birds of Tapajos National Forest

Large sized mammals and birds play important roles in ecosystems, acting as seed dispersers, seed predators, herbivores, and being predators or preys for other animals, and thus regulating several ecological processes. Furthermore these species are meat source for people, although the overexploitation may impact their population, and so their ecological interactions, threating the ecosystem maintenance. The selective logging also may impact animal population, because may extract tree provide food resources. In this work, we investigated the effects of poaching and selective logging on game mammals (larger than 1 kg) and birds (ground-dwelling species) of Tapajos National Forest using camera trap surveys. We conducted our sampling in four LTER (PELD) modules of Research Program on Biodiversity (KM117_M2, KM134, KM67 and Acaratinga).
