Metagenome profiling of saliva-derived microcosm biofilms

This study evaluated the impact of the rare sugar allulose on the microbial community structure of saliva-derived microcosm oral biofilms using a cariogenic potential assessment platform. Microbial composition and diversity were analyzed in comparison to sucrose, a known cariogenic sugar. The findings provide new insights into the ecological effects of sugar substitutes on oral microbiota, particularly in modulating biofilm formation and preserving microbial diversity.
