The Diplomatarium Fennicum dataset consists of eight data fields taken from the Diplomatarium Fennicum database. This database contains medieval charters and text excerpts concerning Finland and Finns, published and maintained by the National Archives of Finland. The selected data fields are central to identifying, categorizing, and analyzing the texts. The dataset represents only a minimal portion of the entire database; the selected data have been cleaned and combined to be human-legible. The dataset is intended for various experiments and tests in the fields of digital humanities, data analytics, and linguistics. The data fields include: unique identifier for the textual entity (usually an individual charter), starting year for the time period when the document was published, ending year for the time period when the document was published, identifiable issuing place of the document (mainly in Finnish and Swedish), country in which the issuing place is or was located, language(s) of the document (given in Finnish), index terms in Finnish (concerning both the form and content of the document), and the text of the charter (given according to Reinhold Hausens Finlands Medeltidsurkunder I-VIII (1910-1935) or his Registrum Ecclesiae Aboensis (1890)).
