Vernal Pool Biomass Clippings, Merced Vernal Pool and Grassland Reserve

This is a list of biomass clippings that were taken at 3 vernal pool sites on the Merced Vernal Pool and Grassland Reserve. These vernal pools had been fenced off for a study looking into grazing effects on floristic diversity in the region. This data was used to check the difference in productivity or net plant biomass from the upland inside the fenced vernal pools to the upland outside the fenced vernal pools. 3 samples were collected semi-randomly from inside and outside each pool. Each sample was taken by laying down a 21cm^2 square and clipping all biomass present to store in brown bags. Once clippings were taken they were dried in an over at 51.67 degrees Celsius for 24 hours for residual dry matter (RDM). Samples were weighed and reported in grams. When computed the average enclosed biomass was 2,721 lbs/acre and the average outside the fence was 1,869 lbs/acre.
