Ecology of Cat Oral Microbiomes in Inflammatory Dental Disease

This study investigated the microbial signatures of aggressive periodontitis and feline chronic gingivostomatitis in comparison to healthy cats to highlight the potential contribution of the oral microbiome to progressive inflammation of the oral cavity. The microbiomes of three cohorts of privately owned cats were evaluated using total RNA sequencing. Healthy cats were sampled in addition to cats presenting in clinical practice with aggressive periodontitis or feline chronic gingivostomatitis.
