In this project we have used high throughput 454-pyrosequencing of ITS2 amplicons to analyse fungal communities in humus and litter from 26 old-growth boreal forests in central Sweden. The sites represent a gradient in nitrogen availability and pH, as well as different vegetation types with respect to dominant tree (Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies) and understory species.
