Enrichments were made of surface lake water for the cultivation of novel Cyanobacteria. A Nostoc sp. was enriched through dilution-to-extinction and flow cytometry and the genomic DNA of the sample was subjected to short-read sequencing and assembly of the dominant genome. Lake water samples were targeted due to the detection of cyanotoxins (microcystin, saxitoxin) in order to screen for novel toxin-producing Cyanobacteria.
