The role of container periphyton as an oviposition attractant for female Aedes aegypti

In this study we examined the impact of periphyton derived from an artificial water-collecting container on oviposition in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, demonstrating that it was highly attractive to this important vector mosquito. We then performed 16s rRNA profiling of a range of periphyton samples and demonstrated that it has high microbial richness and contains a large number of Cyanobacteria and other photosynthetic microorganisms.
