The state of Maranhão is a unique place for presenting three Brazilian biomes among which we can highlight the Cerrado, which is considered one of the hotspots for environmental preservation, and is increasingly threatened by the economic exploitation of the region. Chapada das Mesas National Park (PARNACM) is located in the southwest of Maranhão, between the municipalities of Carolina, Estreito and Riachão and despite its ecological, hydrological and tourist importance, few projects have been carried out in the region to study its microbiological biodiversity.In this sense, it is sought, through molecular biology and bioinformatics techniques,to understand which microorganisms are present in PARNACM water bodies, theirecological importance and their biotechnological potential.
