What the Qur'ānic Text Demonstrably Shows — A QOTE Analysis

This study applies the Qur'ān-Only Translation Engine (QOTE) methodology to the Arabic triliteral root k-f-r, from which the term kāfir derives. Restricting all interpretive evidence to the Qur'ān's internal linguistic resources — root morphology, intra-textual co-occurrence, structural parallelism, and whole-text coherence testing — the analysis examines approximately 525 occurrences and demonstrates that the root's primary and consistent semantic field is covering, concealing, or withholding acknowledgement. The term kāfir is shown to denote a relational posture rather than a fixed confessional identity category. Critical evidence includes (Quran 57:20), where the intensive plural kuffār unambiguously refers to farmers, providing internal lexical evidence for the root's concrete physical sense. The text's primary structural antithesis pairs kufr against shukr (acknowledgement/gratitude), not against a confessional proposition. The received translation "unbeliever" imports a creedal-confessional framework absent from the text's internal evidence and produces incoherence at multiple sites. All findings are falsifiable by Qur'ānic textual evidence.
