EU net greenhouse gas emissions (according to EU climate policies and targets) (1990-2024)

These data cover the total GHG emissions as regulated by EU law, aligning with the targets included in the European Climate Law. Specifically, these emissions include:
• GHGs emitted within the EU from activities such as energy production, industrial processes, waste management and agriculture.
• GHG emissions and GHG removals related to LULUCF, including from forestry, wetland management and other land uses.
• GHG emissions from international aviation and international navigation as defined in the European Climate Law. These include: for International aviation, intra-EU flights, departing flights from EU27 to EEA (non-EU) countries, to UK and to CH; for International maritime: emissions from voyages between two EU27 Member States, 50% of emissions from voyages between a EU27 Member State and NO/IS, 50% of emissions from voyages between an EU27 Member States and a third country.

Source: International aviation and maritime emissions covered by EU climate targets, as defined in the European Climate Law, are estimated by using the Joint Research Centre’s Integrated Database of the European Energy System (JRC-IDEES).
