资源简介:
Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU) undertook an archaeological evaluation at Anchor Lane Farm, Anchor Lane, Burwell (TL57472 68145) to assess the site’s geoarchaeological potential prior to a proposed agrivoltaic development. Fieldwork took place on the 19th June 2025 and comprised two trenches and one test pit. The investigation revealed a heavily truncated soil profile considerably impacted by historical and modern agriculture. In the southernmost trench, discrete patches of buried soil and an intermittent desiccated peat horizon occurred within shallow depressions of the undulating underlying geology. These deposits represent remnants of blanket deposits that may once have extended across the wider landscape. In the north trench, nearing Burwell Lode, a 1.7m deep palaeochannel of likely Late Glacial to Holocene age was investigated. The only archaeological features encountered were a tree-throw and a post-Medieval ‘marling pit’, both in the southern trench. The digital archive comprises PDF/A copies of the CAU grey literature report and Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI), a selection of site photographs (.tiff files), a finalised site plan (.dxf), and the site context register (.csv).
