Microbial evolutionary experiments during plant residue degradation

Using plant residues with different complexity (corn cob, wheat straw, corn stalk, cotton stalk, apple branch and palm fiber) as the sole substrate respectively, a mixed microbial sample from 127 environmental materials was incubated at 28 degree for 15 days, followed by the successive solid-phase subculturing of total 14 generations. After that, total mRNAs from each sample were extracted and performed for metatranscriptome sequencing using Illumina platform.
