Cultural Resources Data Recovery Report, Weaver Demarest Site, NYSM # 10588, PIN 1089.51.101, NY 4 and 32, Village of Waterford, Town of Waterford, Saratoga County, New York

This report describes the results of an architectural evaluation of the Weaver Demarest Site. The evaluation was completed as part of the PIN I 089.51.101 Data Recovery investigation of the Weaver-Demarest Site (97PR2140). The evaluation was conducted by staff of the Cultural Resources Survey Program, with assistance from staff of the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, in July 1998. The Weaver Demarest Site was previously determined to be Not Eligible for the National Register of Historic Places due to a loss of architectural integrity. This modest Greek Revival dwelling has been compromised by the addition of metal siding, window and entry alterations, and a new roof and chimneys. Virtually all original materials and stylistic features on the exterior have been covered over or removed. The objective of the architectural evaluation was to retrieve information from the interior of the building that could contribute to an understanding of the Weaver-Demerest Site. The main goal was to assess how the house structure and use of interior spaces had changed over time. Acquisition of the property by the Department of Transportation permitted access to all interior areas and allowed the selective exposure of structural features for this purpose. Annotated plans were drawn for each floor and features were recorded with 35 mm color photography
