Tourism Dataset of the Department of Sucre, Colombia: A Metadata-Based Approach

User-generated data represent a valuable source of information for the analysis of tourist behavior. In this context, the dataset entitled “Tourism Dataset of the Department of Sucre, Colombia: A Metadata-Based Approach” compiles information on tourist experiences in the region from multiple digital sources. Data collection was carried out through the use of application programming interfaces (APIs), specifically from platforms such as Foursquare and Google Maps, in a structured process that included the identification of tourist sites and the retrieval of user profiles. The dataset contains a total of 33,667 records, corresponding to 4,910 unique users, 21,266 places, and 664 tourist locations. The temporal coverage of the reviews spans from 2010 to 2025, enabling a longitudinal analysis of tourist behavior in the region. The dataset incorporates a wide range of metadata and tourist behavior variables. This dataset enables a detailed analysis of tourist behavior, the application of natural language processing techniques, and the development of tools aimed at smart tourism.
