Data on breeding biology and nest characteristics of the Little Owl (<i>Athene noctua</i>)
收藏资源简介:
This dataset provides a comprehensive record of the breeding biology and nest characteristics of the Little Owl (<i>Athene noctua</i>) collected during the 2024 breeding season. A total of 200 nests were monitored across farmland and urban habitats, offering detailed insights into how environmental features influence nesting behavior and reproductive success. For each nest, the dataset includes information on habitat type, nest site, nest height, and nest-box orientation, as well as distances to human settlements and nearby water bodies. Breeding parameters such as egg-laying dates, clutch size, incubation period, hatching success, nestling period, and fledging numbers are thoroughly documented. Measures of breeding outcome—including egg loss, chick loss, and overall breeding success—are also provided. This dataset serves as a valuable resource for studying raptor ecology, nest-site selection, habitat associations, and reproductive performance. It is well-suited for ecological research, comparative breeding studies, conservation planning, and long-term monitoring of Little Owl populations.
