The School Improvement Plan was a funding and planning program introduced to schools from c.1983 to c.late 1980s. The program was administered by the School Improvement Plan Secretariat, Ministry of Education and Training (VA 1112). The program commenced c.1983, however the series in custody only dates from 1986.The intention of the School Improvement Plan was to encourage a wide variety of approaches to the practice of school improvement. It intended to encourage a participatory model for decision making, use feedback from schools to make the system more responsive, provide the schools with some money under their own control, assist schools to build a long term plan.The longterm objectives of the School Improvement Plan were:-(a) to assist schools to reflect on their total practice (including curriculum, teaching / learning styles and organisation) and to develop in ways that improve the learning experiences of all students(b) to encourage systemic decision making which would provide resources and services to schools in ways that meet their identified needs and result in the delivery of co-ordinated support services to the school(c) to encourage and support collaborative practices between parents, students and teachers in schools, and between schools and the rest of the systemto encourage and support a cyclical process of school evaluation, planning, implementation and re-evaluation.Series includes copies of completed pro forma Notice of Intent and Commitments by each school to apply for S.I.P. funding, minutes and agenda of regional committee meetings, executive officers reports and correspondence.
