Reproducible R Code for Global rise and widening inequalities in the burden of hearing loss from 1990 to 2023: an analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023

This repository contains the R code used for the analysis of hearing loss prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs) from 1990 to 2023, as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. The analysis involves age-standardized rates (ASRs), annual percent change (APC) calculations, and segmented regression models to identify trends in hearing loss burden globally and regionally. The code is organized into the following parts: Data preparation: Preprocessing raw data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. Analysis pipelines: Calculation of age-standardized rates (ASRs), annual percent change (APC), and sensitivity analyses using different periods (1990–2023, 2000–2023). Figure generation: Visualizations including forest plots, heatmaps, and segmented APC trends. Model robustness: Sensitivity checks using different regression models and uncertainty assessments. Reproducibility: All necessary dependencies and packages are included in the code, and a session info file is provided to ensure reproducibility.
