As of October 2022, there was a total of around 8.2 thousand hospitals in Japan, of which 629 were located in Tokyo Prefecture. That year, the prefecture with the highest density of hospitals was Kochi Prefecture, with around 17.8 hospitals per 100 thousand inhabitants.
