Thoracic electrical impedance tomography using a two-plane electrode configuration in horses

This study demonstrates that two-plane EIT provides more uniform vertical sensitivity over a cylinder-shaped lung area, resulting in a more dorsally distributed ventilation compared to one-plane EIT. While comparison to a gold standard reference is lacking, we believe that the distribution detected using two-plane EIT has the potential to more closely represent the anatomical and physiological reality than traditional one-plane EIT. Thus, due to a reduction in spatial sensitivity bias, two-plane may have potential for improved detection of various lung pathologies and monitoring of ventilation distribution during general anesthesia.
