Marine Strategy Framework Directive Marine Waters

The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) Assessment Area is the geographic area management and reporting unit for Ireland’s MSFD reporting. The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) is European legislation, which found to protect the marine environment. It requires the application of an ecosystem-based approach to the management of human activities, enabling a sustainable use of marine goods and services. The MSFD Assessment Area Covers an area similar to the extent of the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
