Survey among students about primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes

NOKUT (The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education) has conducted an evaluation of primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes in Norway. The purpose of the evaluation was to gather knowledge about the quality of these programmes and contribute to quality development. The purpose of the evaluation was also to contribute to the knowledge base included in the Ministry of Education and Research's white paper on professional education programmes.

The project is part of NOKUT's overall focus on teacher education in recent years. The project is also part of NOKUT's work to evaluate, analyse and disseminate information about the quality of Norwegian study programmes.

NOKUT conducted five surveys to gather information about the ways different actors experience primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes; surveys among students, candidates, teachers, school principals and practice teachers. The purpose of the surveys was:
• to map out characteristics of / attitudes among students (motivation, identity etc.)
• to assess the target groups’ views on the evaluation themes
• to provide data on several levels: national overall, institution and study programme (where possible) and across the primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes, teaching education programme for grades 8-13, and practical pedagogical education (where possible)
