VPRS 18046 Plan and Section Books, Victorian Railway Lines

This series contains bound plans documenting the country and metropolitan railway lines in Victoria at the time they were built, including the rail corridors and the surrounding land.Whilst multiple copies of these plan books were produced, his particular series is distinct from the others as it was incorporated into the Victorian Railways Plan Room system. Consequently each of the plan books was given a record number, and indexed numerically and also alphabetically by geographic location.Each plan book is of a sequential section along a particular rail line and includes information regarding the construction and condition of the lines, and the services they run, for the rail corridor and other associated Victorian Railway land. Also, included are elevation plans for the respective sections. These show survey details of the rise and fall of the rail line over the specified distance. Many of the plans also include a contract number.Not all of the proposed lines were actually built. Some of the plans have annotations and amendments (such as new crossings, etc.) which have been added at later dates up to the late 1970s.
