Inulin has been reported to exert beneficial effects on the prevention and treatment of obesity-related disorders, but its potential mechanisms still need to be further explored. Herein we treated HFD-fed mice with intragastric administration of inulin for 10 weeks and investigated its impacts on the gut microbiota and obesity-related disorders. Subsequently, the faecal microbiota from inulin dosed mice was transferred to HFD-induced obese recipient mice to confirm the causal role of the gut microbiota in the protective effect of inulin on obesity-related disorders. In order to examine the gut microbial changes, we used a 16S rRNA gene sequencing approach to analyze the gut microbiome in feces of mice receiving normal chow (Chow), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD/inulin (INU), faecal microbiota from inulin-treated mice (INUR) and faecal microbiota from HFD-induced obese mice (HFDR).
