Synthesis and biological evaluation of quinolone-based derivatives for anti-cancer potential

This research focused on developing new compounds to fight cancer. A total of 52 chemical compounds based on a structure called 4-quinolone were synthesised and tested for anticancer activity. Initial screening identified 15 promising compounds, which were further tested on breast cancer and leukaemia cells. Six showed strong results, and two were especially effective. To understand how they work, molecular docking was performed, suggesting they may target a key cancer-related protein called Topoisomerase. These findings indicate that 4-quinolone derivatives could be promising candidates for future cancer drug development.
